4 January 2013 – Cleveland, Detroit, Nashville, Pittsburgh, Birmingham and Bucharest are just a few of the cities that have hosted the incredible traveling exhibition, Women Of A New Tribe. This dynamic photographic study of black women of the North American African diaspora is now a must-see event. The exhibition has been called a "powerfully uplifting" experience and a long overdue homage to the black women that inhabit our everyday lives. Since its 2002 premiere in Charlotte, NC, the project has traveled continuously around the country and twice to Europe. The exhibition is currently showing at the Miami International Airport.
This experience is further enhanced by the photographing and inclusion of women from the hosting communities in the exhibit. This unique feature of the project has been used to great effect to increase community interest and involvement. Below is a sampling of images done of women from the hosting communities.
"Using the synergy of portraiture and symbolism, he has found a way to tell the story of both a woman and a people."
