Help wanted! Looking for VISTA members to empower, engage, improve our community

Monday, September 11, 2017

I’m excited to announce that my office is seeking candidates for the AmeriCorps VISTA program! Please spread the word about a great opportunity for individuals who want to help us engage, empower, and improve our community.

For the fourth year in a row, we are participating in the AmeriCorps VISTA program to help us create change in Wyandotte County. Our partnership with VISTA has grown over the years, and we now have 8 full-time VISTA members who dedicate a year of their lives serving our community in different departments at the Unified Government.

These VISTA members are asked to take on a lot of responsibility and have participated in a range of rewarding tasks. They’ve built websites to promote healthy behaviors, developed messaging campaigns, successfully written grants, and helped improve water access for urban farmers. The list goes on. My point is: our VISTA members have made real contributions to our community.

So if you know people who are looking for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to develop their skills AND make a difference, please forward this message to them. VISTA members receive a living allowance (not traditional pay) and benefits like health care and payment toward student loans. The experience is also a great resume-builder. Those interested in pursuing this opportunity should email a resume and cover letter to Lindsay Behgam, lbehgam.
