Clunkers for Charity

Clunkers for Charity was started as a way of helping auto dealerships get vehicles they received during the “Cash for Clunkers” Cars Allowance Rebate program off of their lots and properly salvaged and disposed of. It also allows individuals that have vehicles that no longer work or they no longer want, to donate them and receive a tax deduction.

IBSA, Inc, a local nonprofit organization started the Clunkers for Charity program to help its agency raise funds for programs and activities aimed at low-income youth and adults. Since 1993, IBSA has provided community service opportunities and work experience for youth referred by court services, career counseling to low-income individuals seeking gainful employment, and have provided meaningful development and support services to small minority-owned businesses.

Dealerships are invited to furnish vehicles they received under the Cash for Clunkers program to a local auto salvage company we have partnered with to properly destroy and disposed of their vehicles. The salvage firm will donate part of the proceeds it receives from the salvage to IBSA as a tax-deductable contribution. Automobiles will be picked up from the dealerships lot and the dealership will be recognized publicaly for their support.

Individuals that missed out on the Cash for Clunkers program, but have vehicles they want to be rid of can also donate them to IBSA and may receive a tax deduction based on the value of the car and its intended use by IBSA. Cars that are running may be fixed up and donated to to a wide array of needy clients referred to IBSA.

*Old home appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners, hot water heaters, etc… are also accepted whether working or not.
